Neuronal Maps for Sensory-Motor Control in the Barn Owl
نویسندگان
چکیده
The bam owl has fused visual/auditory/motor representations of space in its midbrain which are used to orient the head so that visual or auditory stimuli are centered in the visual field of view. We present models and computer simulations of these structures which address various problems, inclu<lln~ the construction of a map of space from auditory sensory information, and the problem of driving the motor system from these maps. We compare the results with biological data.

متن کاملA candidate pathway for a visual instructional signal to the barn owl's auditory system.
Many organisms use multimodal maps to generate coherent neuronal representations that allow adequate responses to stimuli that excite several sensory modalities. During ontogeny of these maps, one modality typically acts as the dominant system the other modalities are aligned to. A well studied model for the alignment of sensory maps is the calibration of the auditory space map by the visual sy...

متن کاملAdaptation of Barn Owl Localization System with Spike Timing Dependent Plasticity
To localize a seen object, the superior colliculus of the barn owl integrates the visual and auditory localization cues which are accessed from the sensory system of the brain. These cues are formed as visual and auditory maps, thus the alignment between visual and auditory maps is very important for accurate localization in prey behavior. Blindness or prism wearing may interfere this alignment...
